    Diane Webb began her professional career at Michigan Bell Telephone Company in 1985, when she entered a technical apprenticeship program with the Communication Workers of American (CWA). Diane completed the apprenticeship and was promoted to Service Technician in 1986, Splicing Technician in 1993, and Digital Operations Technician in 1996. During her tenure with the CWA Diane worked her way through a Bachelor’s of Science in Organizational Communications and Business Management from Eastern Michigan University where she graduated with honors in 1991. Diane took a few years off school to work extended hours and purchase a home. Diane enrolled in graduate school at Wayne State University in 1994, and earned her Master’s of Arts Degree in Public Relations in 1998.

    Diane was promoted into management in 1996, and earned four progressive promotions in four years working in the areas of Customer Service and Project Management for the company’s largest accounts. Diane was selected by upper-management to participate in the Ameritech Executive Training Program in 1999, and was promoted to Director, External Affairs by SBC in 2000. As a Director of External Affairs, Diane was responsible for Government and Community Relations in an assigned region of Wayne and Oakland Counties. She served as the corporate liaison to 2 Federal Congressmen, 16 State Legislators, 23 county commissioners and 44 municipalities, including Redford Township, Dearborn Heights and Garden City that make up the 9th District. While in External Affairs, Diane was proud to work with the CWA leadership on multiple initiatives to protect union jobs including garnering government support for the “Living Wage” legislation, to secure worker’s rights to fair compensation. Diane’s responsibilities also included managing the internal Political Action Campaign, and the administration and distribution of SBC Foundation grant dollars that she allocated to the non-profit, and grassroots organizations in her territory.

     Diane’s community involvement included serving on numerous boards and commissions including: Family Services Organization, The Senior Alliance, American-Arab Chamber of Commerce, Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), Birmingham Community House, Farmington Hills Chamber of Commerce-Government Roundtable, and the University of Michigan’s “Women on Move” Executive Planning Committee. Diane was actively involved in supporting numerous local Chambers, and charitable organizations throughout the communities she served. Diane still serves on the Community Advisory Council for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

    In 2003, Diane was recruited for public service by the State Senator and House Representative from her home district. She answered the call to service by running for City Council, in Garden City and was elected to a four year term. Diane’s accomplishments on City Council include settling 5 union contracts, the revision of the city’s telecommunication network saving the taxpayers $750,000 over five years, refinancing the city’s debt, for $200,000 in annual savings, the enlistment of the Michigan Employment Benefits Services Organization (MEBS) for an annual savings of approximately $ 300,000 and securing Federal and State dollars for the replacement of Maplewood Road, a major thoroughfare in Garden City. Diane is most proud of her proven track record for addressing and resolving constituent concerns. She feels honored to have been chosen by the people to serve, and looks forward to the opportunity to represent the residents of the 9th District.

    Diane is a lifelong resident of Michigan, and currently resides in Garden City, Michigan, with her son, Garrett.
